Bowerbird Bazaar.

Last weekend I finally made it to a Bowerbird Bazaar event. This one was the 10th, so it’s safe to say I have missed a few, but the wait was worth it. I have been to my fair share of markets, some promising the biggest collection of goodies but only comprising 15 minutes worth of looking, some calling themselves a vintage market but really just trying to sell the vintage look for a designer price, but then every now and then you find the real thing. The Bowerbird Bazaar market is the ultimate showcase of Australian designers + makers. A twice-annual, three-day event, with so much going on (food, live music, live demonstrations) that you could be forgiven for never wanting to leave.

The great thing about design markets is that you to get to meet + greet the designers themselves. And while secretly I wish that I had the time + energy to take my business to the next level like they have, being around their creative energy is just as fulfilling! We met the owner of Alfie & Audrey and learnt how her grandfather’s furniture collection inspired her to start her retro upholstery business. We were amazed by the bight colours + designs of Nosha Creative‘s handcrafted products, but even more that their range of wooden magnets were carved from trees in SA’s own Mt Gambier. The handmade porcelain clay pots + hanging vases made by Bridget Bodenham were so eye-catching that literally no-one could walk past without admiring them. Belts made out of up-cycled bicycle tyres from Buck!t – can you get any more creative? The limited chic designs by Prana Studios is a small enough collection that you feel like you almost own a once-off. Just to name a few…
