This year we have truly discovered the goodness of homemade food. Something we never really had time for, or much knowledge of before. I mean we both grew up around homemade food, our Mum’s are both baking genius’! We always joke how our lunch boxes were filled with homemade musli bars, cakes and biscuits – when all we wanted was the junk food! But until now we have never tackled the task of homemade. But when one person of the household can’t even drink and is tired by 8pm, there’s a lot of time to fill that would have usually been spent at social gatherings. So with this free time, we have started to appreciate having fresh and organic food, and how we can fill our cupboards with our own yummy goods. We are also working on lowering the toxins in our household to get baby-ready, from cleaning products to furniture to food. We shop weekly at the local Torrens Markets which has turned into a fun Sunday morning tradition (Yep, we’re actually out of bed before midday these days!). We buy organic when we can afford it. And of course it all comes down to: make your own food, know what’s in it!
On tonight’s menu, I’ll be making Wholemeal Ciabatta bread to last us for the weekend. I found a great recipe from Crepes of Wrath, wish me luck.
