A Nursery Tour.

Well the most important room of our house is finally finished – the little one’s nursery. We have been slowly working on this room for months now, in no rush or deadline, but just adding things as we find them. The room has gone through a state of clean, to mess, to clean, to ‘can’t open the door’ mess, and then cleaned again. And the whole time I just kept telling myself “the little one won’t even be in here for the first few months, don’t stress”! And we didn’t!
We worked hard to style the nursery on a very economical budget. We managed to recycle some of the items from other rooms in the house – the chair is from a set of two that we had reupholstered a few years ago, and the curtains were from our last house that we hadn’t found a place for yet. The chest of drawers were on sale in the Ikea damaged section (only a slight dent in the front). The rug and lamp were purchased during a Freedom 2-for-1 sale. Most of the prints I have had stored away ready for that “one day when we have a nursery”. And we have been extremely lucky to be given so much in way of clothes, baby products, toys, and even a cot and change table from friends and family. One of favourite pieces is the knitted shawl my Mum made when I was little!
As much as the magazines and books try to sell you hundreds of expensive products, and make you think you need them to survive a baby, the process of setting up a nursery doesn’t need to break the bank. In total, we only spent around $500, yes for every little item. Even if you don’t have the friends and family with hand-me-downs, you just need to look around for second hand items or sales. I can’t stress this enough – don’t waste the money if you don’t have to! On that note – here’s a sneak peak at my new favourite room…
